The core proposition
ACSLS 2027 is deliberately designed as more than a conventional conference. It will connect governments, producers, processors, commercial and development banks, investors, technology companies, research institutions, foundations and development partners around practical transactions, country investment pipelines, policy reforms, credible measurement systems and scalable innovations.
The Summit's goal is to catalyse competitive, climate-resilient, low-emissions-intensity and trade-ready livestock systems by connecting African priorities with finance, markets, technology and evidence.

Why Botswana is well placed to lead
Botswana is a credible African example of livestock competitiveness. Its value chain has long experience with animal identification, veterinary controls, quality assurance and access to high-value overseas markets.
Under the Competitiveness-plus-Sustainability theme, Botswana can demonstrate a forward-looking market-access strategy: safeguarding established premium markets, opening sustainability-sensitive opportunities, attracting downstream investment and positioning Botswana beef as safe, traceable, competitive and sustainably produced.
Hosting the inaugural Summit would also create a high-visibility platform for Botswana's producers, processors, researchers, financial institutions and public agencies to engage directly with global finance, technology, innovation and market actors.

Institutionalizing outcomes
Africa Climate-Smart Livestock Trust
The proposed Trust is a maximum 10-year catalytic mechanism intended to help countries move from Summit commitments to prepared projects and investible programmes. It is proposed for hosting under the African Union and placement with a suitable fiduciary agent, subject to feasibility and formal approval, with Botswana proposed as an inaugural co-Chair alongside the AU.

The Africa Climate Smart Livestock Summit concept, programme architecture, Africa Climate-Smart Livestock Trust concept and associated knowledge products are the intellectual property of Livestock Futures. Collaboration with host governments and partners will be governed through agreed partnership arrangements.
